Puri is district headquarter, a city situated about 60 kilometres (37 mi) south of state capital Bhubaneswar, on the eastern coast of the Bay of Bengal in the Indian state of Orissa. It is also known as Jagannath Puri after the Jagannath Temple (built in the late eleventh century). It is a holy city of the Hindus as a part of the Char Dham pilgrimages. It is considered that a pilgrimage of the temples of India is not complete without making the journey to Puri.

Puri also has one of the best beaches for swimming in India and is also a popular beach resort, positioned in a unique place so that both sunset and sunrise can be viewed from the beach.

Acadia National Park, Maine, is a favorite vacation destination for good reason. The views are spectacular. The landscape is pristine. And, the wildlife is plentiful and protected. As a result, Acadia National Park is one of the most visited national parks in the United States.

Acadia National Park

Bar Harbor, Maine, a small coastal resort town on Mount Desert Island, has a symbiotic relationship with Acadia National Park. Bar Harbor, with its shops, restaurants, hotels, cottages, bed and breakfasts, inns, galleries, vacation rentals and more, has a special ambiance blended with Downeast character. Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia National Park are often the starting and ending points of an unforgettable Maine vacation.

One of the most unique aspects of how Acadia National Park came to be is that it is due to the vision and donations of private citizens. George B. Dorr and Charles W. Eliot anticipated the dangers that over-development would bring to the area and acted quickly to prevent it. John D. Rockefeller, Jr., played a critical role by building the carriage roads (1915 – 1933) and donating over 11,000 acres of land towards what became Acadia National Park. There have been countless others since who have donated their time and resources to help realize this dream so that we may all experience its raw beauty and power.

The national park was established as Sieur de Monts National Monument in July 1916 but then was changed to Lafayette National Park in February 1919. In January 1929, it was officially named Acadia National Park. Today, it encompasses approximately 47,748 acres in three main areas. Most of the park is on Mount Desert Island. To the Northeast is Schoodic Peninsula and to the Southwest (accessible only by boat) is Isle Au Haut. Baker Island (Southeast coast) and Bar Island (near Bar Harbor) also have national park land.

There is a National Park information center on Thompson Island just before crossing onto Mount Desert Island. The main island has two centers. The main Visitor Center is near Route 3 in Hulls Cove and the Park Headquarters & Winter Visitor Center is on Route 233 near Eagle Lake.

Thunder Hole is the place in Acadia National Park to experience the thunder of the sea against the rocky shores of Maine! On calm days you may wonder what the fuss is all about. But wait until the waves kick up a few notches. Thunder Hole is a small inlet, naturally carved out of the rocks, where the waves roll into. At the end of this inlet, down low, is a small cavern where, when the rush of the wave arrives, air and water is forced out like a clap of distant thunder. Water may spout as high as 40 feet with a thunderous roar! Hence the name: Thunder Hole.

Acadia National Park is a land of contrast and diversity. Comprised of a cluster of islands on the Maine coast, Acadia is positioned within the broad transition zone between eastern deciduous and northern coniferous forests, and hosts several species and plant communities at the edge of their geographic range.
The drive to Cadillac mountain is up a steep grade but the road is good and sufficiently wide. The view of the surrounding area from the top is well worth the trip and is one landscape photographers would not want to miss. One can view the city of bar Harbor and surrounding area as well as the beautiful blue waters of the bay and all of the islands covered with trees. One can see many large and small boats in the harbor as well as cruise ships.

Cadilac Mountain

Start up the mountain one hour before sunset. The traffic may be slow. Stop at a western parking lot below the summit. Parking is very limited, so arrive early to get a parking spot. Hundreds of people may be here for sunset. Cadillac mountain is the largest mountain on the Atlantic. The drive is good, with a few areas to stop along the way. There are ranger talks in the morning and evening. The sunset views were fantastic, but this is definitely a place to visit multiple times under different weather conditions for the fabulous views. Cadillac Mountain located inside Acadia National Park, can be reached by driving the Park Loop Road. The Road is closed from December 1 to April 15, and the best times of the year for the best views from the top of Cadillac Mountain are said to be during Fall and Winter.

Opened in October 1994, the George Gustav Heye Center of the National Museum of the American Indian, at the historic Alexander Hamilton U.S. Custom House in lower Manhattan, serves as the National Museum of the American Indian’s exhibition and education facility in New York City.

When you look at the collections, spanning all major culture areas of the Americas, representing virtually all tribes of the United States and Canada, and a significant number of cultures from Central and South America including the Caribbean, it should come as no surprise the National Museum of the American Indian is considered to possess one of the world’s most significant collections of images documenting Native peoples.

The museum hosts tours, film screenings, live performances, lectures and workshops. This also includes permanent and temporary exhibitions, as well as a range of public programs—including music and dance performances, films, and symposia—explore the diversity of the Native people of the Americas and the strength and continuity of their cultures from the earliest times to the present.

National Museum of the American Indian is the sixteenth museum of the Smithsonian Institution and works in collaboration with the Native peoples of the Western Hemisphere to protect and foster their cultures by reaffirming traditions and beliefs, encouraging contemporary artistic expression and empowering the Indian voice.

The museum’s Gallery Store (Main Level) features handcrafted jewelry, pottery, textiles, and more by skilled Native artisans, as well as a large selection of toys, Native foods, books and media, and souvenirs and crafts for the novice collector.

Within the Heye Center, the Resource Center orients visitors to the museum’s offerings, and provides visitors with the opportunity to use the latest computer technology to learn more about Native life and history. In addition, online technology links the museum and Native communities throughout the Western Hemisphere.

The National Museum of the American Indian, George Gustav Heye Center, is located at One Bowling Green adjacent to the northeast corner of Battery Park, New York, New York. Admission is free, and the building is fully accessible.

A picture of the National Museum of the American Indian is shown below. Hope you enjoyed the post. Thanks for viewing.
